Darling updated

Thought I'd have a bit of painting practice and finish the pic of Alistair Darling off.

Hello Darling

I bet this man doesn't go a day without someone sniggering behind his back as they remember Blackadder Goes Forth...

Anyway, another very rough sketch for the Schoolism course, our Chancellor is one of the subjects for the current assignment and of course it's his big day in the spotlight today (was that luck or judgement Jason? :) ).

The Pope

Another Schoolism drawing. Quite like this but I've seen lots of brilliant caricatures of this person, I feel like I'm almost copying them from memory!

Jarvis Cocker

Saw him on TV last night and it reminded me that I wanted to do a caricature of him. This was fun, not sure it looks that much like him though...

Tom Hanks

This for the Schoolism Caricature course with Jason Seiler, which I finally signed up for. Already after Lesson 1 I realise how fundamentally rubbish I am and that I have so much to learn!

Weding caricature

Another gift practice - this is actually my wife and I on our wedding day (3 years ago in July)! Hope she'll forgive me for painting her!

Scarlett Johansson

Haven't finished this yet, but now I look at it I quite like the looseness of the hair and body. Maybe I'll leave it as is. I really enjoyed painting this but I feel like I'm way too conservative with exaggeration - need to learn to go much further, break away from the photo reference and stretch myself (and my subjects I guess!).

Dr. Sheldon Cooper PhD

My current favourite TV show is The Big Bang Theory, I just love the characters and the fact that I get a lot of the geek and science references makes it even more brilliant. Of course the best character by far is Sheldon. Total genius.

EDIT: Here's a newer version of Sheldon I did a while ago for all you Big Bang fans! You can get a t-shirt of this design here!

Gift caricature practice

Well as of today I am officially unemployed, and my efforts will now be focused on making that self-employed, and hopefully gift caricatures will be a step towards that.

As a practice run, I've done one for my Dad who is a big golfer and clay-pigeon shooter. You'll have to trust me when I say I nailed the likeness, creating the additional elements is still quite new and needs more work though.
